164 LS Strange behavior

All:

Driving our '94 164 LS automatic in the rain last Saturday (15 Dec)
(following another vehicle at circa 60 mph constant throttle), it began
to be down on power / hesitated.

Background:
I had similar behaviour under load a couple of months ago (accelerating
rapidly (full throttle) to the speed limit. That time, shifting to the
sport mode (drops the transmission a gear or two and brings up the revs
eliminated the problem.

During the next week, hard application of the throttle at low revs,
caused a bogging action (but not in sport mode (cause the revs started
out higher engine was developing more torque?) More gentle application
of the throttle eliminated the bogging and I had dismissed the behaviour
as a non recurring anomaly.

Back to the problem. Shifting into sport mode and then moving the lever
down from fourth to third worsened the problem. As I turned off the road
into a parking lot, the power steering got heavy and the dash lights lit
up. (I don't believe I turned off the ignition.) Looked under the hood,
nothing amiss that I could spot except the usual squirrel consumed nuts
on the cam covers. Got back in and restarted the engine no problem and
no evidence of hesitation / bogging all the way home. Took the car out
for some short trips around town no further evidence of a problem.

Fast forward to Monday night around town had another episode where on
acceleration, the car hesitated, went down on power and died. Coasting
to the side of the road, I shut off the ignition, and restarted the
engine. No further problem until returning from dinner I purposely got
on the power real hard and had a bit of hesitation / bogging.

No issues today. Intermittent electrical problem? Fuel Pump / clogged
fuel filter (I think not, this is too random and infrequent right?)?

For those who don't know, the transmission is electronically controlled.

Thanks in Advance and Best Wishes,
