I am in the same situation. We bought a partly assembled 74 GTV and I
promised my wife that the air conditioning would get reinstalled. It had
(dealer installed ?) air conditioning from new. I thought it was factory,
but David Simmons claims there was no factory air option on the 74 GTV. He
bought one new, so he should know. On the other hand, he removes air
conditioners and puts them in his attic. He feels air conditioning and
radios are superfluous.
I looked at the air conditioner compressor on the 85 spider engine
sitting in the garage. I like the way it mounts and have considered pulling
some Webers out of the attic. However, I have not messed with a Spica car
for years and this car came with a rebuilt Spica pump.
The early air conditioning compressors mounted in mid air above the
alternator. A huge ugly bracket hung from studs on the front of the cylinder
head. I have been collecting brackets from Alfa that have been cut up so I
have several. I even have one with a rotary style compressor someone mounted
on the original big ugly bracket.
I need to go look at an Alfetta parts car I have. It has the
compressor mounted where the alternator should be with the alternator above.
I may use that mounting system.
In any case, I will go with a rotary compressor. I may buy a new
compressor from AlfaBill. It appears that when adapting, I can use a Milano
compressor.
I understand that one big limitation on the GTV is that it was never
intended to have air from the factory. Therefore, air supply is a problem.
You may have to loose the air vents to supply fresh air to the evaporator.
On recycle mode, that should not be a problem.
Sorry if this rambles. I am just sort of thinking out loud. Maybe I
should be in the garage test fitting things instead.

Ciao,
