Thanks for this note.

I think that this sounds like the next step - to make sure the rack is
tight before assuming that anything major is wrong.

When you diagnosed the loose rack in your 164, was it visibly loose, or is
the looseness hard to detect.  What were teh symptoms when you drove the
car.
