'91 164S slow warm up even with new thermostat

I'd like to have listers opinions on the warm up time
of their 164's. I've found this engine to be the
slowest to warm up of any car I've ever experienced.
Mine takes around 10 minutes of stop and go driving
for the needle to hit 190 F and this is in the mild
60-65 degree climate of San Francisco. Is this the
case with everyone elses?

All the other cars I've owned, BMW, Mercedes, Fiat,
Honda, Lancia and others have taken around five
minutes or less in mild weather. The three BMW's and
one Honda were the quickest.

I've had two 164's both of which had stuck open
thermostats when I bought them. After installing new
ones in each the temp would then stay where it is
supposed to while moving along, around 190-195 F.
This would indicate the the new units were working
fine whereas with a stuck thermostat the temp would
drop below 190 after a few minutes at higher speeds.
Of course with a stuck open unit the warm up time was
even slower yet.

Thanks,
Jerry Ecklund, San Francisco
