     Applying pressure on the Giubo / driveshaft donut to break the crankshaft nut loose should not be any harder on it than normal stop and go driving.  Especially if your stopping and going is done with exuberance...
     Double nutting a bolt or stud is just two nuts turned against each other to prevent them coming loose.  To remove a stud from the front of the engine, put on two nuts, tighten them against each other and put the wrench on the inner one to unscrew the stud.  Put a new stud back in with the same method.
     Double nutting a bolt can also prevent the bolt from coming loose while still allowing a bit of slack so the bolt can turn.  The only place I can think of where Alfa did that stock is on the Alternator pivot bolt.  
     I generally double nut the exhaust system bolts to keep them in place.  Normal lock washers with a nut do not seem to do so good with the heat and vibration of the exhaust system.
