Alfasud in USA

In no.1427, Jim listed his informal USA Sud-Sprint-33 register, and well =
well, what a gem it included, "1972 Alfa Sud Ti 1.3, EPA car, race =
prepared, extra engine".

By golly, that's a very rare beast, a 1972 Sud. 1972 was I think the first =
year of Sud manufacture, and even here in NZ where we still have swags of =
Suds running around, I'd be surprised if there are any of those very early =
ones still left. Like our early 116s sedans & coupes, and early 105 =
sedans, the really early Suds are pretty well extinct. The last time I saw =
any was some years ago at a Wellington AROC grass gymkhana, where a member =
brought along one of two really old Suds, 1973 or 74 I think they were, =
which he'd bought for $50 the pair, both complete and running. Anyway he =
gave it heaps all day over the paddocks at the gymkhana, and it wouldn't =
break, no matter how fast driven or how rough the hillocks got over the =
day. Then he drove it home. He was about to go overseas for an extended =
time and planned to put them away in a barn he'd got access to somewhere =
out in the sticks up Horowhenua way I think. I never did hear any more of =
them (or of the gent himself). If they (the Suds) still exist, I guess =
they'd be the oldest left in N.Z.
