re: Anyone know Royal Purple Synthetic

In AD-V7# 1423 Jason Ball <alfamale@domain.elided> wonders about Royal Purple
synthetic oil, versus Amsoil and Mobil 1.

Royal Purple was discussed on another mailing list I was on some time back.
Opinions went both ways, some saying it was great, others sceptical. In general
it seemed to me that those who said it was good didn't have much hard evidence
to back up their claims. Those who stuck with the transmission lube of choice
on that list (Red Line: http://www.redlineoil.com/ ) at least had some detailed
test results to back it up. The concensus among the more knowledgable (in my
judgement at any rate) members was that Royal Purple chose tests designed to
show off Royal Purple's great specs without looking at it's performance over
time, and that Red Line, Amsoil (and possibly Mobil) synthetics were a better
choice.

I don't have personal experience to back this up, other than having used Red
Line with good results in a Camaro LSD rear end, but their site is definitely
worth a look since it seems to have a lot of information and test results. Also
check out the following site, which has some good information and comparisons of
many different oils, including Red Line and Amsoil but unfortunately not Royal
Purple:

Hope this helps,
