The prep for cam covers posting that recomended cleaning only was a good
one, for one exception.  Steel wool should never touch aluminum.  Small
steel fibers imbed themselves in the soft aluminum, and set up a
bimetalic corosion, which will cause some deterioration of the surface. 
No steel wool an any aluminum parts.  Use scotch brite or equivelant.
