Synthetic Oil

Question for the Sunthetic Oil thread:

My 164 LS has 69k on it.  Is it too late to switch to synthetic?  I switched
to synthetic on my 91 164 at 115k and it loosened up a whole ton of sludge
and I had to have some major engine work as a result.  I obviously dont want
to make that mistake again.  thanks,
