The traditional pre-cat setup on all Spiders is a front resonator, a
main muffler in the middle, and a tail resonator. I can't really
tell that the one in the tail does anything. The one in front mostly
goes bad from rust and buzzes at 3000-4000 RPM. ;=( The difference
between a muffler and a resonator is that a muffler reduces sound
output while raising back pressure. A resonator just tunes the
system while not raising back pressure much, if at all. The stock
exhaust (pre-cat) flows quite well up to about 7000 RPM. Full-race
setups that run over 7000 do want less back pressure. Anything in
between is largely a matter of personal taste, IMO.
