164S spoiler (form or function?)

i have the chance to have the spoiler on my 164S removed for little or no
cost.  although i sometimes question myself when looking at it from
certain, strategic angles, i happen to think that it generally ugly and
detracting from the otherwise very nice lines of the car.  it looks easy
(four bolt holes need to be welded up) and simple, but i'm concerned
about compromising any high speed stability once it's gone.  does anyone
know for sure/ care to take an educated stab at this.
