Colourful rubber

Aren't the coloured tread tires B F Goodrich? Use of high concentrations of 
Silicon allows any colour (no carbon black) to be used. Why would black 
streaks on the pavement be esthetically tolerable and yellow or red not? 
Baffling, and in San Fran you say....pretty weird.
