Re: Snow Tires again - and SUV'S.

Michael and Jorge point out the inherent problems with equipping a car for
some-time travel on icy/snowy roads. When I was doing a lot more skiing
the choice was easy - there is no substitute for real 'snow' (really ice)
tires. Living in the balmy climes of California or the Colorado Front
Range the choices are tough, because here in town we *can* get snow from
October through May. If one wants to ski (or drive to the mountains for
whatever reason) from November through April you certainly need proper
tires for that. Lately, though, I only *need* snow tires a few times a
year but can't tell when those times will be. The Milano is fine in the
snow with four skinny Hakkepeliitas but they really detract from dry road
fun. It's a bit of a drag always being outfitted for the worst and
consequently being poorly equipped for the norm.

That's why I'm hoping the 164 will be fine with a high performance all
season tire. I realize any all season will be a compromise but
realistically this is for my wife's car and it just doesn't get cornered
that hard on dry roads. I suppose I'll eventually put real snows on my L
wheels and just switch them back and forth on my car for snowy weather.
Just another thing that would be much easier with a garage!

Thanks for the comments, guys.
