Snow'n Alfas

Jorge
<<So, what should I do? What do you guys in the snow suggest? I like my
Alfas low, so chains are hard to get and always make the clank-clank noise
no matter how tight, and on heavy now, I hit snow with the exhaust all the
time.>>

Back in a previous Northeast life, I used to have to drive my lowered Milano in
snow all the time, hated it, but it performed quite well on rated rubber,
lowering it actually seemed to help, except for deep sections of course as it
just seemed to hunker the car down for stability, wider rubber of course didn't
help. Chains??? I couldn't dream of driving on bare pavement with chains on the
Milano.

<< That's why my dream Alfa would be a 4WD, adjustable ride hight, 2
sets of wheels, and room for skis inside (fold down rear seat). May be a
156 wagon with 4WD. Some times an SUV is not that crazy of an idea, after
all. (sorry)>>

4WD is quit safe I'm sure but less of a grin inducer I think than the tail out
fun the RWD Alfas can provide. Adjustable ride height ala SZ, YES!!!!
2 sets of wheels or more depending on mood and purpose, how about 18 inch
Touring car wheels for those track days. I once read an Alfa brochure claiming
that they will not do fold down rear seats because that area of the car needs to
have a solid structure for rigidity.
SUV's only in snowy backcountry and the like, keep those obstructions off public
highways, it's like driving blind being behind one of those things, pass em all
the time.
