tuning and exhaust analyzers

I finally adjusted the Spica to idle and start
properly (it is possible !).
I am having some difficulty setting the proper
mixture, though. It is on a Spica Spider (74). I have
thought about getting an exhaust analyzer to get a
more accurate CO reading.
Every time my Spider needs to be smogged (2 more
times), I have to go through the 20 or so steps in
Ingram's book to put everything back. The one that is
difficult for me is screwing in or out the de-cel "by
ear".
Has anyone purchased one of these babies? Here is an
example of a portable (and affordable) one, but it
only measures CO, without the other two. It should be
enough, as that adjustment only needs a Co reading.

I also cannot get the timing right. I am shooting for
the M mark at 5000, but this might be wrong, since I
have a high compression engine and a Marelli Plex with
a faster advance (modified spring). Should this make a
difference?
When I get it to run sort of right, it is nowhere near
the mark, but it has a hesitation (does not want to
rev) from 1500 to 3000. If I time it right on the
mark, it backfires, but I could probably take care of
it by unscrewing the solenoid. I know I should set the
timing first...
It would be easy to go to the mechanic, but it's
personal now ! Any clues?

test-driven three 308GT4s now, and I am taking the
last one for a buyer's inspection)
