Re: firing order



Sorry to be getting in late on this...

I agree with both Tom and Fred on this, but here's another trick. If
you take out the spark plugs and rotate the engine in the proper
direction, you should be able to look thru the #1 spark plug hole
and see the valves operating. The sequence is, Exhaust, then Intake,
then the next TDC on #1 is TDC of the firing stroke. Look at where
the disty rotor is pointing, and that's where the #1 wire goes on
the cap. Follow the 1342 order, and it should work. You may well
have fouled the plugs, so pulling them out is a good idea anyway.
This trick keeps you from having to pull the cam cover if you don't
need to.

It's fairly common for the oil pump shaft to end up in an engine
in the wrong orientation, which affects the disty orientation. If
somebody doesn't take the time to set things right, the pictures in
the manuals don't do much good.
