RE: Fuel gauge sender

Hi Simon,
I pulled the sender on my 69 Spider Jr. because the gasket was bad and
letting fumes escape. I was told the only way to get a gasket was buy the
sender, so it sounds like you got shorted. I tried different liquid gaskets
but none of them could hold up to the gasoline fumes, so I finally found
some 1/4"(?) cork gasket material and cut my own. The edges are a little
rough but it works. I did have to make a diagonal cut on one side because it
wouldn't fit over the float assembly in one piece. I also had trouble
getting the sender back in the tank but that may have more to do with a
repair right under the sender portion. Try not to bend the float arm
otherwise you'll have to find a way to recalibrate. I'm afraid I wasn't
careful enough on that one and ended up running out of gas with an eighth of
a tank still showing. I kept wondering why it stopped going down until the
engine stuttered and died. I still haven't gotten around to recalibrating it
yet.

>>Hi all,
Finally got hold of a "new" fuel gauge sender for my 71 Spider and
plan to install it this weekend. Can someone give me an overview of
the process: can't be difficult can it??!! Also, is there a gasket
between the sender and the tank? Does this automatically need
replacing? Where would I get one?
Cheers
Simon.<<
