Re: Monterey notes

Once again, Scott gives us all a great piece of writing. Thanks, Scott!

FYI, there has been a regular sh*t storm over on the vintage-race email
list regarding the melee you saw the end of in turn 2. Apparently, and
according to those who have viewed the Speedvision footage at length,
the great Stirling Moss initiated the mess by trying a more balls than
brains pass on the inside of turn 1. He hit another car, went off the
track into the dirt, kept going ala Zanardi, then collected the Old
Yaller in mid spin. There are many who are asking if Stirling should be
relegated to pace car duty as he seems to lack the proper judgement to
be driving among cars that are no longer considered disposable. The
Aston DBR-1 is apparently on its 3rd rebody, so a 4th won't raise any
eyebrows in merry olde England. This is not the first time Stirling
Moss has bent somebody else's bodywork trying an ill-advised passing
maneuver.

Felix Chiu's favorite saying about his blue TZ-1 is, "See, they don't
HAVE to be red." ;=) He also says that some of the TZ-1's were fitted
with GTA motors in the 60's. Among the local Alfa vintage racers, the
consensus seems to be that 1600's are acceptable in 750/101 cars, and
1750's are acceptable in 105 cars up to '67. The 2000's are not, at
least locally.

Yes, Scott, the 1750 will practically bolt right in to a GT Junior. Use
the tranny, bell housing, flywheel and clutch you now have on the 1300.
You might need to get different headers, as the 1750 is a bit taller.

Simon (No I was NOT in Monterey this year, but had fun anyway.)
