Re 164TS Suspension.

Did you know about the UK recall notice 16th Jan 1995 ref 2469 164/RCL ??

This replaced the top spring bearing, seat and boot.

My 91 164TS Lusso had this done and it ceretainly needed it. Before I
worked out what was wrong it was very strange to drive - felt like torque
steer or heavy wander but not consistent.
What was happenning was that the top spring bearings were sticking.
The springs are fixed at the hub and rotate at the top - but the bearings
were sticking so that it would only move in jumps - this then gave the
steering a sprung offset bias in a random way according to how far it had
previously been turned and the strength of the last bump.

The test is to park on wet grass or slippery and turn the steering slowly
from lock to lock - there are creaks and jerks as the bearings load up then
snap around to a new position.

The replacement ones are supposed to last forever (?? !!!).
