Thank you for the info so far re "Dremels."
MY interest in this tool is largely based on its use as a polishing tool.
It would seem that using this tool for that purpose is not uncommon among
motorcycle enthusiasts. I have picked up the idea that these "Wal-Mart"
Dremels burn out relatively quickly. When that occurs, one gets another.
The electric toothbrush Dremels are becoming quite common these days; I
have not seen many other brands commonly hawked - even Dremel ads are
recent and limited.
After some research I found that Dremel has a rather wide range of
machines. The one I bought I have never seen anywhere; I ordered in from
Dremel direct.
It is 1/5 horse power, has a long heavy duty flex cable. The motor can be
hung by its hook in order to keep it from one's work. Further, it has a
foot operated control. Top speed : 22K.
I suspect that this unit will not burn out quickly. However, it is the
tool bits that frustrate me. I am not so much personally interested in
another brand of power - not now - as I am in quality wire brushes and so
on.
BTW - Sears' "Dremel" type tools are made by ............. Dremel.
Yes, the tool is handy especially as the hand grip is fairly thin, the
working tip - like an elec toothbrush. However, it is still too cumbersome
for a lot of work. I am VERY interested in anyone who has devised a kind
of extension shaft for various bits. For example, if I had a wire brush
mounted to a 10" shaft, it would be extremely handy. What I had in mind
was the kind of shaft one might find on a drill powered paint mixing bit or
the *extra* long drill bits.
Regards
David
