re: paint in bay area

The shop doing FrankenSpider is Finish Line Painting in Tracy (I live in
Cupertino). He was a reference from my friend who owns a motorcycle shop
who has had several jobs done well, and he was doing a car now and then
when he had time and space. I saw one car he did and it looked great so I
decided to give him a shot with the Spider.

When I dropped off the car, he told me he was going to do work more
selectively from now on, doing only motorcycles and cars referred by
people he trusted or that were really cared for by their owners rather an
every job that walked in off the street. I told him that I'd be happy to
put his name out there for the Alfa Romeo community if he enjoyed doing
cars like the Spider (and presuming he did a good job, of course! ;), and
he seemed quite enthusiastic about that.

Like you, I'm looking for a decent job, not show quality, for a daily
driver. FrankenSpider does not need either major rust repair or
extensive bodywork, just some minor nicks and such. I've been quoted as
high as $3500 from various shops in Silly Valley, which I thought was a
little too much. Mike quoted me $2000-2500 for the job, including the
extra work required to change the color from silver to yellow and do a
good job of it. I'll see how he does by the end of the month.
