Holding the throttle wide open is asking for trouble, don't touch it.  The
problem is the fuel check valve is not holding fuel from draining back into
the tank and you have to crank it a lot to build up pressure again, I think.
 Too, it may be the coolant temperature sensor gone bad or disconnected.
