Oil drain plug ... idiot

There was a talk about oil drain plugs too tight ... also oil filters


In my Alfa book it is written (to my surprise):

Screw-in the oil filter with hand and use the band key??? to
tighten it WELL ... to avoid loosing oil 


A time ago i decided do change oil pan gasket on my car.
I first had to drain the oil obviously but the plug
was very tight (not my work). 
I could not loosen the plug and I was forced to expand the key with
a 1ft pipe to finaly get the plug to move. At that time I did not
notice the wrong direction ... and I ended with drained oil but with
plug in the oil pan :-( I can't imagine how did I feel.

You won't believe but after I got the plug from oil pan and put
everything back to place it doesn't leak oil. This poor car was a FIAT ...
