Say it's a warm month here in LA and your GTV-6 has been parked in the sun.
Even using one of the sun shades that are so popular here (covers the
windshield to minimize greenhouse heating) you come back to the car and find
it is about 160F inside. Start the car and open the windows and sunroof to
let out the heat and let in the cool ambient breezes which may be 115F. The
interior surfaces of the cabin continue to radiate heat like glowing coals
for hours afterward, probably putting more heat into the interior air than
the offsetting cool air being introduced by the paltry AC unit. Without the
windshield sunshade in most summer months it is impossible to touch the
steering wheel with bare hands without getting 3rd degree burns unless you
drape a towel over the wheel if the car is parked outside - and this is
pretty tricky if you go to a restaurant and must hand the car over to a
valet. Hence, the popularity of stringback driving gloves as a health
measure. With leather seating surfaces, Nomex underpants are also suggested.
