Here's another approach for putting them in that worked well for me.  I took 
a piece of hose that had an i.d. just large enough for the seal to fit 
through.  Then, lubed the seal, put it into the hose, then with the hose 
lined up to the hole in the main bearing, pushed the seal in.  The hose keeps 
the seal from bulging out as it is pushed.
