Driving Alfa Spiders

I have a question on when people normally shift into a higher gear when
driving Spiders (1986 model year).

At what RPM range should 86 Spiders be driven?
On city streets?
On highways?
What are the downsides of flooring it?

I ask because I used to drive a Japanese car, and they typically shift at
3000 RPMs, but the Spider seems to drive better when I shift at 4000 RPMs.
