Luke,
Be cautious about crafting yourself a new needle. Speedos accuracy are
dependent on needle weight. About 15 yrs ago I had the same problem
on a car of unmentioned marque. I decided to clip off the offending portion
of the needle and went out motoring along merrily at 45 mph while the
speedo registered 60 mph. I proceeded to find out how speedo's worked
(magnets and springs) and diagnosed the problem with a resounding DUHHH!
Needless to say reforming the needle with heat or a "TINY BIT" of glue
is the more desirable approach.
