164 A/C problem

Gabrielle's A/C has been cutting out after about 10 seconds of use recently.
I took off the filler valve cover and poked at the valve. Something gaseous
came out, but it wasn't freezing cold, there wasn't any condensation blowing
out either. The car has 63K miles on it, and there were 8 units of freon
added at 58K under the 60K mile service. Nothing had ever been done before
that. Ideas? Where do I start looking for leaks? Thanks in advance.
