wiper blades

On my  '92 Spider whe wipers chatter across the windshied and back--not a
smooth, quiet sweep--unless there is a heavy rain in which case they work
fine.  Any ideas in how to fix this?  Thanks.

Rocky - Try cleaning the windshield itself, and then the business edge of the
wiper blade with a light soap and water solution.  If that doesn't cure the
problem, invest in a new set of blades.  

They have a finite lifespan, and you may be cloe enough to Los Angeles smog
that their lifetime has been altered (for the worse of course)
