Rewiring fan to run after engine off

Hi all,

With the 90 back on the road, I'm still a little non-plussed as to the
cause of the overheat that caused the head gasket failure, so far, I've
found the "T" at the back of the LHS head (the return to the expansion
tank was completely scaled up), and a new expansion tank cap. These two
made a big difference to operating temperature. Of course, it could be
that the gasket failed, which caused the overheat.

Anyhow at the moment, temperature control is just fine, but to make sure
I'd like to rewire the fan to run with the ignition off. I looked at
Rich Hirsch's article
(http://reality.sgi.com/employees/sikand_mti/clone/milfanon.html), and
was looking at the plug to the fan. The one on the 90 is different - it
has three terminals: violet/white, pink, and black on the fan side, and
violet/white, 2xpink (common), and 1xblack on the other. No sign
anywhere of the gray/yellow wire anywhere. With the wires to the
thermoswitch shorted, applying 12V to pink has no (visible) effect.

Haven't had a chance to run through the circuit diagram yet, but has
anybody got any ideas?

Thanks,

Tony
