The following excerpt was taken from a communication between Fiat and Ardona:

".....Bosch has confirmed that y2k does have an effect on certain
configurations of Motronic. The defect affects the rev limiter....the limiter
logic recognizes the present redline as the calender year 2000, which signals
the controller to provide spark for maximum rpm, even though the throttle
angle may indicate otherwise...."
   " Bosch has offered a contract to do reprogramming. We, at Fiat, are not
interested due to the small number of cars sold in the USA, which are now out
of warranty..."
