Milano ABS Head Gaskets

I worked my way through college working at an Alfa Shop here
in town, so I have done many V6 head gaskets on both GTV6's and Milano's
w/ and w/o the ABS. You do not even have to touch the brakes on the ABS
cars. If you take the rubber mount of the passenger side, the head will
come off without disturbing the ABS system. On the none ABS cars the
four bolts and off the brake booster and your in business.

Now Rich's suggestion that it takes some where between 20 to
40 hours to replace both head gaskets is unbelievable. For head gasket
replacement only the going rate is about 10 hours. For the amount of
time Rich is talking about I could take the engine out, rebuild it, and
out it back in. The labor should be about $500, and the various parts
around $300 tops. Now if the top end is blown up and you have to replace
all of the valves, guides, seals, cams, and followers you might reach
the $1800 range, but not for a regular head gasket job.

Mike Harris - Milano Verde's are great cars. The conversion to
standard brakes would require changing the pedal box, bk mc, booster,
and all of the lines to the wheels. If you ABS is serviceable, it is
much cheaper to repair than replace.

Sorry to hear everyone is having head gasket problems this time
of year. Good Luck to all.
