Your car is the way it should be. The coolant temperature sensor for the
spark computer was installed on early Milanos for emission-control reasons
but subsequently found to be unnecessary. The factory issued a service
bulletin instructing dealers to disconnect the sensor and cut off the wire.
Sounds like your car was modified as it should have been. On later cars
(3.0 l models, at least), there was no sensor and the mounting point on the
thermostat was even eliminated.
