Thermostatic actuators

Recent topic of the thermostatic actuator has made me think of a question
for the experienced. A R Ricmabi sells a item called a sure shot. It
replaces the actuator and makes it manual. Does it work? What are the
drawbacks and what are the positive sides if any?
