30K miles should not be an issue, if you are willing to do the maintenance.
It may be an issue if you EXPECT absolute 100% trouble free reliability, but
this is true with any old used car, not just Alfa. 

Lastly, I live in Boston, too, and used to have a 79 Spider as my winter
car. It is definitely not for your average girly man. Traction was not a
problem with snow tires, clearance sometimes was. It is not a tail happy car
like and 3 series BMW, or a light rear like a Miata, both of which I also
had as my winter cars. Heat was adequate, it didn't take as long to warm up
as the 914, 911 that I also used as a winter car.

It was an average winter car, My Milano is my current and favorite winter car.

On the other hand, on indian summer days or when spring arrives, there is no
substitute.
