I have an old wrench from K-mart that is somewhat bent so that it crushes the
filter on removal. It will turn it just enough so that I can finish by hand.
It's important to only tighten the new one by hand.

I always remove the front right wheel. With this off, it's not necessary do any
engine jacking. BTW, I use the OEM style filter.
