164 Brake Wear??

Greetings All,

I have noticed that on my '91 164S that in the last 50,000 miles or so that 
I have gone through a set of rear brake pads which will soon need 
replacing.  The odd thing is that there is virtually no wear at all on the 
front pads.  On most cars I have owned it is just the opposite.

Is this normal?  If not, any ideas?  How can I tell if the fronts are 
working as they should be?
