Re: Cross-ply racing tires

Simon,
That's the point! Actually my GTV cracked at the top of the A-pillar
painting(no putty underneath;-) when I tried the first time out on the
circuit with very sticky racing radials. Since then I am hesitating to keep
on using them, but couldn't resist their enormous adhesion, foolish enough.
I really don't want to damage my car simply using sticky tires but I don't
want have any disadvantages due to my choice; If the rule banned that sort
of tires---.

One interesting story: My friend's Healey Sprite(Spridget) used to be the
one of the fastest in its class with a set of GY Blue Streak despite of
instabilities everywhere but straight.
Recently we installed a set of new racing radial on it but lap time got to
be the same or even worse.
Decreases in tire diameter (only low-profiled available) may be one of the
factor, but it is apparent that low cornering force of the cross-ply tires
helps quick turning in and low drag when drifting in the corners,
and result in fast laps. And now, we are thinking of going back to cross-ply.
Moreover, we could have an honor to enjoy real vintage feeling. Why not?
