Subject: Re: "Unfortunately Alfa or Bertone did not have the manufacturing wherewithal"

This has been a splendid thread. What about economic and competitive
pressures?

There was a global recession in the 1970-71 period which shrunk both
consumer demand and manufacturers' profits, followed by a period of
expansion up to 1974, when the oil embargo hit and Uncle Sam weighed in
with heavy auto regulation. The playing field changed dramatically for auto
makers between 1967 and 1975.

The Giulia Sprint GT of 1965-67 was elegant, simple, and sweet, but the
competition got stiffer in '69-'74: BMW 1600 and 2002, Porsche 912,
VW/Porsche 914, Fiat 124 (indeed), Datsun 2000 and 240Z, and more. So
should not the evolution of the Bertone coupes be viewed in this context as
well?

And has anyone mentioned the cloisonne quadrifolio badge on the C pillar
which ended in 1967? Trump card.
