the expansion tank and tubes (and such)

there does seem to be too much spaghetti (ziti?) in that fuel system,
but the fuel pump sends most of the gasoline back to the tank, the
resulting turbulence creates a lotta fumes which theoretically get
into the black plastic tank where they maybe condense & reenter the
fuel tank, or get sucked back through another tube to the engine
air intake system.  
i don't know if it's all really necessary!
