oh so many years ago.  Your grille badge initials represent the Latin
motto for the old Roman empire.
 SPQR=senatus populesque romanus (the senate and people of Rome)
I cannot tell you what the insignia on the rest of the badge stands for. 
Perhaps one of the Italian correspondents can shed some light.
