164 water pump

I am planning on having the valves adjusted on my 164 in the near future
and thought that as long as the dealer has the car, they could go ahead and
replace the water pump.

The question is: My car presently has 84,000 miles on it. How long do the
water pumps in these cars typically last? I've been told as little as
40,000 miles and as high as 150,000.

The dealer says not to replace the pump until it goes bad. I don't know if
I want to wait that long. Besides, when it does go bad, I'll probably be
miles away from home and it'll be this winter when its cold.

Thanks,
