[alfa] Re: bleeding clutch slave GTV6



I'm curious how you managed to patch it. Did you just cut out the bad part and succeed in flaring the freshly-cut ends to patch in a new length of tube?

As for bleeding it, this has proven to be a substantial pain in my ass on the GTV-6 and Milano. Most importantly, make sure the slave cyl. is oriented such that the bleeder is at the highest point possible (i.e. 12 o'clock). Then follow the brake-bleeing convention of your choice until you've wasted a bunch of fluid and gotten frustrated at the persistant presence of air bubbles.

What I learned after doing this a couple times is that the system is somewhat self-bleeding, but not in the traditional sense of "Open the bleeder and let gravity flush the system"--once you've got some semblance of clutch functionality, sit there and work the clutch pedal in and out until your leg cramps up (bring a magazine). If you're lucky you (well, your assistant, unless you have a really long neck) will see tiny, tiny bubbles appear in the reservoir, and the clutch actuation will get better and better. If you're not in a hurry, wait over night to do this and it won't take as long. Eventually all the air will be gone and the clutch will work properly.

On the most recent occasion that I replaced a clutch slave cyl. and had to deal with this, I was in entirely too big a hurry to sit there pumping the clutch all day, so I ended up using a vacuum pump and a jar with two holes in the top to suck the air out. I wasted even more fluid than usual, but it worked like a charm and I was done in a matter of minutes. (What I don't remember is whether or not that was before I built my pressure bleeder, and whether I tried that first.)

I managed to patch the corroded line running up to the clutch slave, but
can't quite figure out how to bleed it and don't see anything in the
documentation.  Can someone show me the light?
