Re: [alfa] 72- 74 GTV Instrument Cluster

Hi Marc:

I don't know if you can get the lenses out, but if you can, find a plastics vendor with a laser cutter. They'll be able to make perfect repro's for you, and at a very inexpensive rate. You might have several extra sets made, and offer them to fellow GTVer's, as the costs are in the setup of the cutter, not the plastic.

If you'd like to see some examples of laser cut lenses, take a look at this site, and select the 7/22/04 dated page from the menu on the left:

http://www.tomyang.net/cars/ferrari.html

The entire site makes for great surfing, too, and there are many obvious similarities between our Alfa's and the vintage Ferrari under restoration.

Subject: [alfa] 72- 74 GTV Instrument Cluster

As many of you know and lament, the differences ibetween the instrument
clusters of the 1750 GTVs and 1972-74 GTVs were significant. Not only was it
a less pretty design but the lenses covering the speedometer and tach went
from glass to clear plastic.
Over time, these plastic lenses tend to get cloudy. And clear plastic does
not respond to polish. The plastic simply seems to deteriorate.

Does anyone know if the 2 plastic lenses covering the speedometer and the tach
can be removed and replaced? Anyone ever tried this? Any suggestions would
be much appreciated.
