if the piston has rusted around its shoulder, it won't retract all the
way. if the boot on the piston is torn, this is probably what has
happened. when this happened to me, i pulled the caliper, split it and
took the piston out. i wired wheeled all the rust off, and sanded with
a dremel. then filled the pits with JB weld (the shoulder is a
non-critical part of the piston) and smoothed it with a razor blade.
cleaned the rust out on the caliper body, and reassembled (after
fitting new boots and o-rings where applicable). OTOH, rebuilt
calipers run around $125, IIRC.
