yes, you *must* separate the ball joint (lower) before pulling the
torsion bar. the a-arm can be removed without taking the torsion bar
off first, and has to if you want to replace the torsion bar. pulling
it to the rear is for adjustment only, it is removed by knocking it
out the front. after you release and remove the a-arm, try pounding
the t-bar forward. if it works, great. if not, extract your bolt, and
put another in. pull the t-bar back, clean the splines and lube, then
pound out the front. if the bolts feel like they still want to shear
before pulling it back, then put on a reasonable amount of torque,
then pound on the front of the t-bar with a hammer. then tighten the
bolt again and proceed until it comes out.
