[alfa] Re: The iPod Finally

Hey Biba-

See my comments below, feel free to ask anything else on/off list.

Ben, hey, I was / am impressed. I won't deny you've made a lot of
decisions I wouldn't, but I don't own your car.
Some day when solar power has made me very rich I'll get you to do a coupe for me. Until then I get to deal with my incredibly shaggy Spider and save up for one of those mirrors you sell. Oh well, it gets me where I want to go (he says, within sight of the dead spider).

I had hoped the iPod was inside. I know nothing about iPod's, but was
pretty sure the ashtray door wouldn't allow access to everything needed
if installed inside. Doesn't Apple make a clip for the iPod? I would
think many would want to support the unit so it doesn't move around, yet
could be removed quickly.
If you look at the page linked from the bottom of the iPod page, you can see a picture of how it used to be mounted (kinda stuck to the cig lighter). That seemed a bit bulky to me, thus the new method. As far as Apple is concerned, they are run by Steve Jobs, one of the biggest egomaniacs ever. The most annoying thing about him is that he totally earned his ego, but that's another story. He dictated that the iPod be as small as possible and so they made it small and required clips to be aftermarket. There are quite a few choices in the iPod clip market, but none are particularly elegant.

I'll go back and reread your page but didn't see where the remote came
into play.
As you mentioned before, the iPod's controls are invisible (and therefore unusable) so I use the remote instead.

I'm going to send my ('69 Spider) client the URL of your very detailed
description.

On another front, haven't received the hot-rodded Blaupunkt Frankfurt
radio. They are having problems with trying to sync the dial with the
stations. My guess it would be a virtually impossible thing to do. I
have the feeling the iPod will be the main source of sound anyway. Since
there are pushbuttons, does it really matter if you want to listen to
105.1 but it goes to 98.1 as long as the station you want to listen to
pops on?
You mean, like my old TV where channel 4 indicated was actually channel 28? I guess that wouldn't matter, but it might be a bit annoying. Of course, I would defer to the Frankfurters on this note. Sounds like your radio's gonna be a real hot dog. I hope it cuts the mustard with your client (sorry, I'll stop).

For those of you not familiar with the '69 ashtray, it has the same
ashtray as on Ben's Spider, but is mounted in a self standing unit.
