Though I am not sure what you/mechanic means by "heavy", I had a set of AVIDs in that size on my 73' GTV with no adverse affects. In fact I loved them for their excellent wet weather performance and dry grip combo. I did have them on a set of BWA 4 spoke wheels if that makes any difference.
