*:  While I'm obviously trying to be clever, it's worth pointing out 
that good ol' Ben Franklin defined "positive" and "negative" 
backwards--electrons actually flow from negative to positive, so what 
I'm trying to say is that the big post is negative.
**: Newer, replacement pumps use spade terminals instead of threaded 
posts.  On these pumps, the size/polarity relationship is cleverly 
reversed (big +, small -).
