i see you got it off.

There is should be a diametric rubber insert from front-to-back of the
pulley completely seperating the outer vee belt grooved part of the pulley
from the hub.  This is only a ring of rubber but stands proud of the front
and rear faces so it should be very obvious.

Regarding chains, if you have the manual, no problem, follow it with
confidence.  Just to emphasize a few points;

1)  The timing cover will come off without problems if the engine has not
previously been put together by DPO with gasket goo, this includes the sump
gasket so it is not necessary to drop the sump.  Putting it back together,
ideally use a strip of shim steel to feed the timing cover back over the
sump gasket

2)  be sure to use the spacers in the tensioners as stated in the book

3)  the idler shaft chainwheel may be out of the timing position suggested
in the book as it does not turn at the same speed as the camshaft.  If you
re-align the timing marks on all the gears, be sure to reset the
distributor timing from scratch using the rotor arm and manifold bolt
method suggested in the book.

4)  take your time, it's worth it in terms of longevity.
